Portals to Freedom in Malaysia

Baha’i actor Phillip Hinton was recently in Malaysia to preform his monoluge, Portals to Freedom, which he adapted from the book of the same name by Howard Colby Ives.

If you’ve been to Australia, chances are you have heard his rich, resonating voice. Phillip Hinton is in great demand as one of Sydney’s leading voiceover artistes in radio, television advertising and documentary narrations. But today, he is sweating beads.
The heat and humidity of Malaysia is weighing down on him, and that famous voice sounds coarse. Dressed in casuals, he moseys into the coffee outlet with his wife.
“It’s terribly hot here,” says the 63-year-old, clearing his throat and fanning himself. He is perspiring and the air-conditioning is not helping.
Hinton came at the invitation of the local Baha’i community to perform a monologue, Portals of Freedom, which he adapted from the book of the same name by Howard Colby Ives. In it, he explores Ives’ spiritual discovery, inner conflicts and intense soul-searching before his chance meeting with Abdu’l Baha, the eldest son of Baha’u’llah, the founder of the Baha’i faith.
