Also, the "At least I think he was being nice" thing was supposed to be funny. And if you had ever met Francisco, I think you would appreciate the comment as he is extremely kind and friendly in a way that could never be interpreted as anything else.
My understanding is that while he does pay his travel costs, and his books on the temples and women weren't commercial ventures, he is, in fact, a photographer who works for a newspaper in Cordoba, Spain (it's for his newspaper work that some of his prizes were awarded) and one would assume he gets paid for that.
