Bahai Centers Galore
So here are a couple of stories about communities getting big, shiney, new Baha’i centres. Now, new Baha’i centres usually aren’t all that newsworthy, but then again, who am I to argue with The Washington Post? (free registration may be required)
The three-story cylindrical structure will be located along Route 7 in Sterling and was designed by a Canadian architect who has drawn plans for religious structures around the world. The 18,000-square-foot building will have a 500-seat auditorium, classrooms, a library and an information center.
And then there’s this one, from Tasmania. Again, not your typical Bahai centre:
A GIANT lantern will soon form part of the gateway to Hobart, as construction of the city’s new $1.8 million Baha’i centre takes shape.
A large dome is being built to form the roof for the hall.
The dome will be made from a non-reflective stainless steel and inset with nine diamond-shaped skylights.
On top of the dome, nine metres from the ground, will rest a round glass lantern. Baha’i community member and project manager Sohale Aflatooni said yesterday the lantern would be lit 24 hours a day.
Anyone with pictures of either of these please send them along. You know where to find me.

Here’s an older article with some more about the Tasmania center — it includes pictures and features everyone’s favorite Tasmanian, Stuart Hall.

In Ottawa we’re working hard to get our own Baha’i centre… we have had some off and on for the past few decades, and just recently our Spiritual Assembly put down an offer for one… not far from where I live either, it’s about a ten-minute bike ride :) Can you say “caretaker”? lol.

Allah’u'Abha! I am a Polish Baha’i, inspired by our last summer school I intend to set up a blog myself as a way of teaching the Faith. (So thank you are there, so I could get some inspiration from you too). We are just now waiting for the opening of our new centre in Warsaw. All the best!

Hey,
Check out the plans for the new Baha’i Centre in Ottawa. The Assembly gathered up enough money to buy up an old Italian restaurant (no, they’re not keeping the pizza oven). Courtesy of my friend Martin, a Baha’i youth from Ottawa. If you go through his album you will find pictures of the center as it looks right now (still very much under construction).
