Reference Library search plugin

Search bar

This one is for any Firefox users out there — someone has contributed a plugin to the search bar for the Bahá’í Reference Library, so you can search the entire site just by using the drop-down menu in the browser.

I was going to write one for the main bahai.org page, but its search method isn’t compatible with the plugin code. However, here’s something you can use if you want to comprehensively search all of the BIC sites:

In the search bar, just include site:bahai.org along with whatever search term you’re using — it works with Google, Yahoo, MSN Search, and most major search engines. That will restrict the search to all of the content on that domain, and will let you search all of The Bahá’ís, the Bahá’í Reference Library, the Bahá’í World News Service, the BIC Statement Library, the Terraces web site, and more.

[N.B. The little Platypus icon in the picture has nothing to do with any of this, but is worth checking out if you’re in to customizing your web browsing experience.]

    Hi…

Thanks for sharing this tool with clear instructions and screenshot at your blog. For your reference, there are two other Baha’i-related search plug-ins, as shown at http://mycroft.mozdev.org/download.html?name=Baha%27i&submitform=Find+search+plugins

I came across your blog by another Firefox/Baha’i-combination of viewing an RSS feed for Baha’i deli.ci.us bookmarks (from http://del.icio.us/rss/tag/bahai ). For your reference, we have gathered some useful RSS info on prominent Baha’i sites at http://bahai-library.com/?file=rss .

For other Firefox Baha’i-related plug-ins and tools, see also http://bahai-library.com/?file=scripture_search

    best wishes,
    Brett

Also, if you follow the code for the Baha’i Library Online plugin, you will see that it is possible through a Google search to have a plugin for bahai.org … Go ahead and submit one, if you like! :)

One thing though…I just realized that the sidebar installation mentioned at one or several of the sites dosn’t work in Firefox 1.5…They seemed to change how javascript works with it since instead of adding the website to the sidebar, it opens up the bookmarks window…But everything else should work…
