We’re always trying to get our hands on Baha’i talks here at Baha’i Blog (taking copyright seriously of course), and in fact one of the requests from our recent Baha’i Blog Survey was to make more Baha’i Talks available.

And now, thanks to the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Santa Monica, California we’re happy to share with everyone two sets of talks held at the Santa Monica Baha’i Centre.

The first is a series of three talks given by Professor Amin Banani in 2003 on the “World Order of Baha’u’llah”.

The second is a series of 12 talks given by Professor Nader Saiedi called “Text and Context in the Baha’i Heroic Age” held in 2014.

Both were held at the Santa Monica Baha’i Centre, and we are so grateful to the Santa Monica Baha’i Community for not only organizing these talks, but for taking the initiative to record them!

Professor Amin Banani has authored numerous scholarly works and was a longtime professor of Persian history and literature at the University of California, Los Angeles. He served the Baha’i Faith in a wide range of roles including being a member of the Board of Trustees of Ḥuqúqu’lláh for the United States for more than two decades, and also an advocate for the Baha’i Faith at the United Nations. He and his wife, Sheila, were Knights of Baha’u’llah for their role in the founding of the national Baha’i community of Greece. Professor Banani passed away on July 28, 2013 at the age of 86. Professor Nader Saiedi is well known for his books Logos and Civilization and Gate of the Heart. Born in Tehran, Iran. He holds a master’s degree in economics from Pahlavi University in Shiraz and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Wisconsin. For over 25 years he was a professor of sociology at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. In 2013, he became the Taslimi Foundation Professor of Baha’i Studies in the department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at UCLA. (Read more about Nader Saiedi here.)

You can listen to these talks by either streaming them, or by downloading them from the links below.

  1. The first lecture of Banani seems to be incomplete because ends after 32 minutes at the middle of a sentence. Can you correct that? It was really a great lecture!

  2. Each session of Mr Saidi’s talks seem to cut off after about 15 min. Then the next part starts at the beginning of the next session and we miss the rest of talk. Is this a problem of the tapes themselves? or of the website technology?

    1. Hi Jeannie, the Banani talks did have some issues but you can stream them now and they shouldn’t cut off. I’m still working to see if there’s an issue with the ‘download’ button so you may not be able to download them just yet, but have a try just in case. I’m also working through the Saiedi talks one by one to see what the issue is. Thanks for your patience and will let you know when I’ve resolved the issue. 🙂

    2. Hi Jeannie, after 3 long days of going through each of the files one-by-one to sort out the issues, they should all be working now. Thanks for your patience. 🙂

  3. The first and second lectures of Banani seems to be incomplete because the end is at the middle of a sentence. Can you correct that? Really great lectures!

  4. Dear Naysan,
Looking forward to listening to these talks. As of Wednesday night still can’t download the Banani talks even though I can stream them. I can download and stream all the Saeedi talks. Greetings & love and keep up the good work. John

  5. Hi, thanks for the things your are doing inorder for us to understand the Baha’i Faith more throughly. May the Blessed Beauty always protect and guide you.
When you say “download” I don’t see anything of that nature.
Tried hitting Part 1 … but not able to see anything. Bottom left, at one point said error, now “! Done” but nothing is happening. Sorry! Hope these comments are helpful. Take care, Kalman (Maseru, Lesotho, Africa)

    1. Hi Kalman, thanks for the message and for your support and encouragement. 🙂

Once you click on the link or the ‘Play’ button, you’ll see the word ‘Download’ appear in the bottom right of the media player. Just click on the word ‘Download’ and then it will start downloading for you. Hope that helps!:)

  6. Thanks for this fantastic service. Text and Context part 4 is not that clear. If you can improve the sound quality would be great.
