Global Health Crisis: Advancing the Discourse on Health & the Role of Community

Dr. Farshad Marvasti and Dr. Shahrzad Saririan give a talk titled ‘Global Health Crisis: Advancing the Discourse on Health & the Role of Community’ at the 2020 Grand Canyon Baha’i Conference (held online).

Dr. Farshad Marvasti is a physician, public health educator and author who is actively engaged in creating solutions to promote health and prevent chronic diseases through an understanding of social, behavioural and lifestyle determinants of health. He is an associate professor and the Director of Public Health, Prevention and Health Promotion at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix. He serves on several Baha’i institutions, both elected and appointed, and is engaged in community-building efforts at the neighbourhood level.

Dr. Shahrzad Saririan is a family physician and works in academic medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Among her current academic interests are how to advance discourses on social determinants of health and the role of community in addressing health inequities. She is part of an Association for Baha’i Studies working group on defining health and has presented her work on this subject at several conferences. She is a member of the Phoenix Baha’i Community; her most recent focus of service as been to promote community building endeavours in community health centres and their surrounding neighbourhoods in efforts to address the social determinants of health.

This talk was given at the 2020 Grand Canyon Baha’i Conference (held online), on Saturday 26 December 2020.
