Baha’is champion rationality and science as essential for human progress. The harmony of science and religion is one of the fundamental principles of the Baha’i Faith, which teaches that truth is one and that religion, without science, soon degenerates into superstition and fanaticism, while science without religion becomes merely the instrument of crude materialism.
The Journey West podcast celebrates the centenary of Abdu’l-Baha’s travels to Egypt, Europe and North America in 1911-1913. Each episode features a reading of one of Abdu’l-Baha’s talks, as well as dramatized stories and historical accounts. Each episode concludes with a discussion of the talk that was featured.
In this episode, we hear about how ‘Abdu’l-Baha gave many public addresses at universities, however His talk at Stanford University in October, 1912 makes a direct connection between the responsibility of science and its relation to world peace. He also talked openly about His father, Baha’u’llah, a feature not often found in His public addresses. For these reasons we choose this talk alongside a feature introducing Abdu’l-Baha’s stay in California.
