Standing for the People – A Gospel Album by Win Thompkins

Win Thompkins is a renowned gospel artist who has achieved great success in the music industry. At the tender age of 14, he received his first recording contract with Nashville’s Cross & Crown Records where he and his brothers were discovered by famous country singing star “Zeke Clements”. The rest is history! Since then he has recorded more than 300 songs and ten albums.

The album Standing for the People shares a deeper love for humanity by promoting peace, unity and tolerance through 13 original songs with catchy danceable R&B and inspirational hooks about oneness. His music brings people together. Win’s aspirations and commitment to inspire others and brighten their lives is apparent in the music born of his talents and spiritual qualities.

Win graciously shared with us about his album, his music, and what words of encouragement he might offer others:

Baha’i Blog: What was the inspiration behind Standing for the People?

It is a summons for individuals and world religions to be awakened to the commonalities we share rather than our differences.

This concept, I believe, will open new and fresh opportunities for the religious community that is playing an important role in making this world a better place for all to live — standing up for the rights and justice for all people. The message is to inspire all to stand for the uplifting of all humanity and not our particular inherited beliefs; this will guide us all to the savings of ourselves, once more proving that the power of the universe lives and works through humanity as humanity.

Baha’i Blog: What was the process like to put this album together?

The process took about a year and a half to complete, between learning new production technology writing programs and producing tracks, bringing in the right musicians and vocal backups — all that going on at the same time was a challenge in itself.

I overcame this by knowing that this project was commissioned by the universe, and all I had to do is follow its guidance from start to finish it was a beautiful experience and journey.

Baha’i Blog: What inspires you as a musician?

My inspiration comes in various ways sometimes in meditation and self-contemplation in times of challenges and in times of inward peace, or just hearing a melody or spoken word, or just life experiences.

Baha’i Blog: What are you working on now?

I am working on ME, to further explore my inner world on how to be a better human being, a husband, father, son and brother and neighbor. And how to convey the voice of the universe through song and music.

Baha’i Blog: What might be some words of encouragement you might offer new artists?

Stay true to who you are as a human being, follow your own path: never imitate another or be lead by someone else’s convictions.

Remain true out of respect for your creativity no one can do what you do, you are a unique individual. Trust your inward voice: it knows how to guide you to your destiny.

Baha’i Blog: Thank you, Win, for taking the time to share this with us.
