Baha’is believe in the power of prayer and you’ll find Baha’is and their friends, throughout the world, getting together to pray. This is often referred to as a ‘devotional gathering’ or ‘devotional meeting’, and they happen in diverse settings, whether in cities or villages.
The Journey West podcast celebrates the centenary of Abdu’l-Baha’s travels to Egypt, Europe and North America in 1911-1913. Each episode features a reading of one of Abdu’l-Baha’s talks, as well as dramatized stories and historical accounts. Each episode concludes with a discussion of the talk that was featured.
In this episode, we hear about how, on May 1, 1912, Abdu’l-Baha laid the corner stone for the first Mashriqu’l-Adhkar, or Baha’i Temple, in the West. He stated that, “an edifice or temple is to be built in order that humanity might find a place of meeting, and this is to be conducive to unity and fellowship among them.” You can find out more about the context of that talk, as well as who helped put this podcast episode together, on The Journey West website here.
Be sure to check out the homepage for these podcasts. You’ll find a treasury of articles about Abdu’l-Baha, the historical context surrounding His travels, and tributes to early believers: www.thejourneywest.org
