On a spring evening on May 22rd, 1844, Siyyid Ali-Muhammad announced that He was the bearer of a Divine Revelation whose aim was to prepare the world for “Him Whom God Shall Make Manifest,” a Messenger of God known as Baha’u’llah. Baha’is refer to Siyyid Ali-Muhammad by His title, the Bab, which is Arabic for “the Gate,” and that eventful evening is celebrated every year by Baha’is around the world.

“I Am” – The Proclamation of the Bab

“I Am” is choral piece created in honour of the bicentenary of the Birth of the Bab. It was composed by Deborah Eckert and performed by Deborah Eckert and Ali Youssefi. Its lyrics are based on a passage from The Dawn-Breakers where the Bab says:

“I am, I am, I am, the promised One! I am the One whose name you have for a thousand years invoked, at whose mention you have risen, whose advent you have longed to witness, and the hour of whose Revelation you have prayed God to hasten.”

Ali was instrumental in helping us film Studio Sessions in Belgrade, Serbia (where he was living at the time), and from these sessions you can watch him sing “Jedinstvo (Unity)” in Serbian,  “Oh Mi Siervo (O My Servant)” in Spanish, and “Know Ye Not” in English. He also sings “Blessed Is the Spot” along with Katie and Deborah Eckert from our Studio Session recorded in Antigua and Barbuda.
