Nava Revalk and Kian Jones are hosts of a delightful and insightful podcast series dedicated to relationships called That Married Couple. In this interview they tell us how the podcast came to be and what food for thought they hope it offers!
Can you please tell us a little bit about yourselves?
Hello! We’re Nava and Kian, a married couple living in Sydney, Australia. Nava is a professional musical theatre performer and law student, and Kian works in marketing at a multinational consultancy firm. We love theatre, games, and exploring fun activities together–all that married couple stuff…
Could you tell us a little bit about your podcast series That Married Couple?
That Married Couple is a podcast all about relationships–from how to tell if they’re the one and navigating relationships from a religious perspective all the way to the nitty gritty details of marriage! We blend listener questions with insights from science and psychology, Baha’i and religious principles, other couples, and expert guest perspectives. We aim to create a space that’s entertaining, thought-provoking, and encourages meaningful conversations.
Our goal is to be as useful to as many people as possible whether you’re single, getting to know someone, or married. Relationships are the foundation of society, and we aim to share insights that help listeners navigate challenges, find joy, and foster intentional growth.
What inspired you to create the podcast?
The idea emerged as we were getting to know each other. We studied an abundance of Baha’i Writings on marriage which offered incredible guidance, however we struggled to locate specific information on navigating early relationships and investigation. After we got married, a friend suggested starting a podcast to share what we’d learned as a way of bridging that gap.
Studying Baha’i Writings, attending courses, and having deep conversations helped us build a strong foundation for our relationship. These experiences showed us the importance of intentional effort in creating prosperous relationships. Through That Married Couple, we hope to inspire others to reflect on and implement such principles in their own lives.
Right now, in our society, we’re often presented with such extremes from the prevalent media about what a relationship should look like. It can be hard to separate reality from drama, causing a lot of confusion. This podcast is our way of contributing towards the discourse around relationships, with the goal of providing impetus for people to have their own discussions, consider varying perspectives and ultimately have a clearer vision for how they wish to conduct their relationships.
What’s something you’ve learned in recording the episodes thus far?
As we are still early in our own marriage, it has been amazing to learn alongside our listeners and guests. Interviewing couples from diverse backgrounds and stages of life has shown us the universal threads in relationships. It’s been inspiring to gather and share their wisdom, providing a guide that celebrates both shared experiences and unique perspectives. We’ve also loved the questions sent in by listeners and hearing their reflections and insights. For example, a few listeners shared that the concepts we discuss have been useful beyond just their romantic relationships but also in their friendships, family relationships and occupations too! Oh, and that everything comes down to *communication & being intentional* 😉
Who is your audience, and what do you hope listeners will take away?
Our audience is beautifully diverse–we have listeners from over 40 countries with our largest demographic being youth aged 16-35. While we often share insights from a Baha’i perspective, our episodes are designed to resonate with people of all backgrounds and ages.
As we say in every episode, we discus a way of doing things – not necessarily the right way or the only way, with the goal that everyone leaves with a better understanding of what they want to do going forward. We hope listeners leave each episode feeling inspired to reflect, ask questions, and deepen their connections—whether with a partner, family, or community.
Where can the podcast be found, and what are your plans and hopes for the future?
You can find That Married Couple on Spotify, and we share clips and updates on our Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to keep growing this community and fostering discussions about relationships. Our hope is to create a safe, vibrant space where people can explore these topics, ask questions, and feel empowered to build thriving relationships.
Thanks so much, Nava and Kian, for sharing this with us!
