Ridvan celebrates Baha’u’llah’s time in 1863 in the garden of Ridvan in Baghdad when He publicly declared His station as a Manifestation of God. The Ridvan Festival is 12 days long and is also the time of year when Baha’is elect their governing bodies.
The Australian Baha’i Community has shared a lovely short video about Sonia and Zahra from Perth’s Stirling and Cambridge communities. During Ayyam-i-Ha, they got together with a team of youth from around Perth and collaborated with Uniting WA to raise supplies (and awareness) in support of those experiencing homelessness. In this video, Sonia and Zahra share a little about the event and how it came together. Uniting WA is a leading not-for-profit organisation that works to address the causes of vulnerability and disadvantage and often relies on donations to continue its valuable work in the community.
Many thanks to Sonia and Zahra for taking us behind the scenes, and to Cherish Chee for capturing a glimpse of this special event.
In her innermost heart, Sonjel is a stay-at-home parent and a bookworm with a maxed out library card but professionally she is a museologist with a background in English Literature. She currently lives on Prince Edward Island, an isle in the shape of a smile on the eastern Canadian coast. Sonjel is a writer who loves to listen to jazz when she's driving at night.
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia.
We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their cultures; and to elders both past and present.
