Identity and the Spiritual Journey in the Badi Calendar – A Talk by Dr. Nader Saiedi

April 26, 2015, in Articles > Audio, by

You know we love Baha’i talks here on Baha’i Blog, and now thanks to the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Santa Monica, California, we’re happy to share with everyone a great talk given by Professor Nader Saiedi called “Identity and the Spiritual Journey in the Badi Calendar”.

Last year, the Universal House of Justice sent a letter to the global Baha’i community implementing the worldwide adoption of the Baha’i calendar, known to Baha’is as the Badi calendar, and in this 99 minute talk, Professor Saiedi explains and reflects on various aspects of its nature and history.

Professor Nader Saiedi is well known for his books Logos and Civilization and Gate of the Heart. Born in Tehran, Iran. He holds a master’s degree in economics from Pahlavi University in Shiraz and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Wisconsin. For over 25 years he was a professor of sociology at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. In 2013, he became the Taslimi Foundation Professor of Baha’i Studies in the department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at UCLA. (Read more about Nader Saiedi here.)

You can also listen to Professor Saiedi’s series of talks entitled Text and Context in the Baha’i Heroic Age here.

We’d really like to thank Dr. Saiedi for this wonderful talk, and also thank the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Santa Monica for organising and recording it.

Happy listening!

Is this the area where we can share information on Baha’i?

John, Baha’i from Sierra Madre, Calif.

I have repeatedly listened to this talk and would like to send Dr. Saiedi an email thanking him for his works. Do you have his email?
Thank you!

Hi Cora, unfortunately I don’t have his email, but I think you can email the National Baha’i Office of the United States and ask them to pass on your message and your contact details. Hope that helps! 🙂

I Ayyam-i-Ha considered a separate month ?

So, for instance, which date is 1 month after Mulk 1st ? Is it the first day of Ayyam-i-Ha of ‘Ala’ 1st ?

Thanks

Hi: Several Baha’i close friends have called my attention to “Naomi Klein” who has written several books on social and political issues. How can we share some of Dr Nader Saiedi”s discussion on World Unity with her? It would probably be best coming from him directly.
