The Martyrdom of the Bab

in Explore > Calendar

On July 9th 1850, the Bab, the forerunner to Baha’u’llah, was executed in Tabriz, Persia by a firing squad of 750 men. The Bab, which means “the Gate” in Arabic, was a Messenger of God whose role was to herald the coming of the latest Manifestation of God: Baha’u’llah. In 1909, after being hidden away for more than half a century, the Bab’s remains were finally interred on Mount Carmel, Israel.

Aerial Footage of the Shrine of the Bab Now Available in Baha’i Media Bank

July 7, 2019, in Articles > Videos & Film, by

As Baha’is around the world prepare to commemorate the Martyrdom of the Bab in a few days, and with the bicentenary of the Birth of the Bab around the corner, I wanted to share that five new video clips of aerial footage of the Shrine of the Bab, located in Haifa, Israel, have recently been added to the Baha’i Media Bank, and from what I can tell, it’s the first time video has been added to the collection.

The Baha’i Media Bank is an official website of the Baha’i World Centre, and it’s a great place to find a wide range of photographs relating to things like Baha’i history, holy places, events and activities.

Four of the five video clips of aerial footage show the Shrine of the Bab at different angles, while the fifth video clip is a montage of some of these four clips edited together. I was so excited when I discovered the new aerial footage of the Shrine of the Bab, that I quickly created a short video of the montage set to music, which some of you may have already seen, but I’ve included it at the bottom of this post as well.

You can find the aerial footage of the Shrine of the Bab using the links below, and as always, please pay attention to the Baha’i Media Bank’s terms of use:

1. Aerial footage #1 of the Shrine of the Bab.
2. Aerial footage #2 of the Shrine of the Bab.
3. Aerial footage #3 of the Shrine of the Bab.
4. Aerial footage #4 of the Shrine of the Bab.
5. Aerial footage compilation of the Shrine of the Bab.

General photographs of the Shrine of the Bab (including the aerial footage) can be found on this page: Buildings & Places – Haifa Area: Shrine of the Bab and Terraces

Here’s the video I created using the video montage from the Baha’i Media Bank, and music purchased from Audio Jungle, a great place to purchase licence-free music for your audio-visual projects. (It should be noted that I am an employee of Envato, the company behind Audio Jungle, however this is by no means an ad for the site. I simply wanted to share the resource I used in case it’s of help to anyone).

Is there a way to download this video with the music?
Also is would be wonderful if you could recommend music to accompany a PowerPoint that our community is constructing for the Birth of The Bab.

YouTube doesn’t have a download option, but regarding music, you’ll see that I’ve linked to the site where I purchased the music track for this video, and where I’m sure you’ll be able to find something too.

To download the videos go to https://media.bahai.org/bicentenary/aerial-footage-shrine-bab-terraces/ . Then click on the video you wish to download. This will open a new window with links for downloading the video.
