Festival of Ridvan

  • Ridvan celebrates Baha’u’llah’s time in 1863 in the garden of Ridvan in Baghdad when He publicly declared His station as a Manifestation of God. The Ridvan Festival is 12 days long and is also the time of year when Baha’is elect their governing bodies.

“O Moving Form of Dust!”- A Persian Chant by Vedad Theophilus

April 5, 2024, in Music > Recording Artist, by

In this video, Vedad Theophilus chants a passage from the Writings of Baha’u’llah in Persian, accompanied by subtle ambient audio and visuals that are abstract or from the natural world.

Here is the excerpt from The Hidden Words that is chanted in Persian, along with its English translation:

ای خاک متحرّک من بتو مأنوسم و تو از من مأیوس سیف عصیان شجرهٔ امید تو را بریده و در جمیع حال بتو نزدیکم و تو در جمیع احوال از من دور و من عزّت بیزوال برای تو اختیار نمودم و تو ذلّت بی‌منتهی برای خود پسندیدی آخر تا وقت باقی مانده رجوع کن و فرصت را مگذار

O Moving Form of Dust ! I desire communion with thee, but thou wouldst put no trust in Me. The sword of thy rebellion hath felled the tree of thy hope. At all times I am near unto thee, but thou art ever far from Me. Imperishable glory I have chosen for thee, yet boundless shame thou hast chosen for thyself. While there is yet time, return, and lose not thy chance.

When we interviewed Vedad about her album What Hast Thou Done?, she shared how she loves to marry Persian and Flamenco musical styles together in some of her chants and songs.

You can find Vedad’s music on 9 Star Media, and her music videos are published on her YouTube channel.
