Ridvan celebrates Baha’u’llah’s time in 1863 in the garden of Ridvan in Baghdad when He publicly declared His station as a Manifestation of God. The Ridvan Festival is 12 days long and is also the time of year when Baha’is elect their governing bodies.
“Tu es ma lampe” is a song based on a passage from The Hidden Words of Baha’u’llah in French. It was performed by the mass choir at the 2023 Australian Baha’i Choral Festival in October. The Baha’i Choral Festival attracts participants from across Australia to sing in the Sydney Baha’i Temple. They perform sacred a cappella music in a variety of styles. Interspersed between the songs are prayers and readings from the world’s major religions.
The soloists for this performance were Jovannah Forrest and Valentine Outhemek, the song was conducted by Lorraine Manifold, the melody was composed by Leon Guathoti, and it was arranged by Pierre Weber. They sing the following passage:
Tu es ma lampe, et ma lumière est en toi. Puise en elle ton éclat et ne cherche nul autre que moi. Car je t’ai créé riche et, sur toi, généreusement, j’ai répandu ma grâce.
Here is an English translation of the words sung:
Thou art My lamp and My light is in thee. Get thou from it thy radiance and seek none other than Me. For I have created thee rich and have bountifully shed My favor upon thee.
