Shidan Toloui-Wallace, a greatly admired Persian and Arabic chanter, has put together a three-part video series that offers advice and encouragement for anyone who would like to better their chanting skills.
As she explained in her interview about her album Phoenix of Love, chanting is not to be confused with singing – although Shidan does that beautifully as well. Chanting is a form of improvised singing usually based on Holy Scriptures or poetry, and a person may chant the same piece of scripture differently every time.
With warmth and love, Shidan shares practical tips and advice based on her years of experience and creative practice. You can find the videos and their accompanying handout on Shidan’s website.
